Finely threaded in-between
were passages of thoughts and delusions,
of what-ifs and have-nots,
of painful consequences of things past.
Why do you feel empty?
Is it because you have finished it at last,
ending, severing that tie
when you put the book down,
closing the final page,
your eyes lingering on that last dot?
Emptiness is.
It just is.
No need to ask why
or how characters die in the end.
They do. We all do.
